Our History

How Did This School Campus Begin?

 

 

 

 

Since 1995, this school campus has been serving the greater City of Plainfield, New Jersey and its surrounding communities. The school is currently licensed for 223 students. 

​

Formerly prior to becoming The Netherwood Academy, Inc, this school was named Al & Jeans Children First and Unique, Inc. Al and Jeans started in 1995 by Childcare Sponsors: Mrs. Beverly Fisher, and her husband Mr. Willie Fisher.

The school was named after Mrs. Fisher’s parents who lived in the wonderful City of Plainfield, New Jersey. Mr. and Mrs. Fisher always had a yearning sensation to open and start a preschool academy. Mrs. Fisher, possesses a Bachelor of Arts / Masters in Early Childhood Education, and minor in Special Education. Mr. Fisher, has extensive supervisory experience in Building and Grounds and Transportation Services, They collectively wanted put everything they had to start this school, and to give back to the community and state by opening: Al and Jeans Inc. 

 

During this arduous journey, and along the many years of operation as Al and Jeans Inc., siblings and children of Mr. and Mrs. Fisher: Kia Fisher,  Tanaisha Fisher, Ashon Fisher, Shaleke Fisher; and Talonna and Talon Fisher have all assisted in various operations of the school through the many years of service to the community.

 

 

Now Meet the Children: 

 

Kia - holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Language Arts and a Masters of Education in the Art of Teaching. She is the Founder of Educators Express Educational School Supplies and operates the Tapinto Piscataway Online News Publication. Her teaching experiences expands from Grades Pre K-12. She even taught at the college level. Kia previously served as the Educational Coordinator at Al and Jeans Inc.  

 

Tanaisha- Holds a Bachelor of Science Degree, Masters in Curriculum and Instruction; and is currently working towards her Doctorate Degree. She owned and operated Al & Jeans Tiny Tot Infant Academy in Plainfield. Tiny Tot served the community for 15+ years. She currently works for the Public School District. Her prior educational experiences include Public School Teaching Grades Pre K-8. Tanaisha taught at Al and Jeans Inc. 

 

Ashon and Shaleke- Have followed the footsteps of their wonderful father. Ashon owns and operates a transportation company, and Shaleke is a Supervisor/Manager in the Food Services/Transportation & Building and Grounds community. 

 

Talonna- Holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, and a Master Degree in Early Childhood Education. She is currently a 1st Grade Public School Teacher, and has served as a Early Childhood Preschool Teacher and Second Grade Teacher. Talonna taught at Al and Jeans Inc. She also has a passion for dance as she founded: The Labella Dance Studio For Kids. 

 

 

 

 

Now The Netherwood Academy, Inc.:

 

Currently, moving forward today, the school is now known as: The Netherwood Academy, Inc. This school campus boasts a partnership of 20 years and counting, with the Plainfield Public Schools Office of Early Childhood Programs and Services as a preschool provider for the district. This partnership yields the ability for the school the school to provide a robust and rigorous curriculum, high quality and certified staffing; and access to resources for students and families.

 

Mr. Talon D. Fisher, who serves as the school’s current Chief School Administrator, holds certifications in New Jersey as a certified: School Administrator (Superintendent), 

Principal, Supervisor; and Teacher. He holds his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History with a minor in Criminal Justice, 2 Master of Education Degrees (Administration and Curriculum); and a Doctoral Level Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. Mr. Fisher has previously served as a: Family Development Worker, Preschool Group Teacher; and Grades - K, 3 & 5 Teacher. He also has leadership experience in Grades Pre K-12.

 

Mr. Fisher is a very dedicated Early Childhood Preschool  Director, and educational leader. He has dedicated his life to the education of children and services for families with many years to come in serving Plainfield. Mr. Fisher is currently working on a capital campaign to expand the organization and reach greater heights within and beyond New Jersey. He has also participated in, and supported various community organizations such as the Friends of Plainfield Public Library, and the Salvation Army over the years.

We are currently enrolling for our Plainfield Preschool Program. Students must be age 3 or 4 by October 1 of the current school year served, and must be a resident of Plainfield, New Jersey. If they meet these set criteria, then they can register for free preschool. Registration can be found on the Plainfield Public School’s website or stop in and speak to Mr. Fisher.
